Can anyone share some advice on distributing and marketing home made candles?

Aug 27, 2008 | making candles at home

Iv'e grown fond of making candles, now it's time to sell them.

Don't be afraid to tell everyone what you do. Anyone is a potential buyer. Be able to sell the product and make sure it is something you personally use. People like things that smell good so have some on hand to show people how good your products are. If you can, develop a catalog so people will easily see what you have in stock. Do some comparisons..why is your candle better than some candle a person can buy at Walmart or any other store. Those are a few things to consider. Make sure you have business cards available. Go to your local town fair/flea market and market your business. Get a free spot on local tv and talk about the products.

Offer specials to people…people are more inclined to buy something if you can reduce the price to get some initial business. Hope this helps.

You can sell any kind of homemade items on etsy.com. Using this site in conjunction with something like a flea market could help you to sell a lot of candles!

For instance, sell a candle at the flea market, and have cards available with your etsy address on them for repeat purchases.

Okay there's a few separate issues first.
If you don't have a website or selling site you can get one here for 100% free with no fees at all.
Once you setup your free account setup your free selling store with stock and take photos of your samples etc.
Just sell at Buy Now Prices.

Then you'll have an URL that you need to market throughout the Internet. This takes time. Read the section under news to help you market your site.

It’s rarely an instant return on the Internet. You need your website coming up relevant to what people "search for" on the Internet. It takes time to get placement in the right places within the Internet and if you're listed in the right category of searches you stand a better chance of returns. The following is one of the better ways.

For a small charge you can have a “Permanent” website advertisement placed in an index such as this in a choice of around 750 categories to target your business trade.

This will raise your website profile and increase its chances of extra sales because this site is indexed by the search engines placing your site within public searches.

The advantage of a site like this is that you don’t have to update your listing again.
