does anyone know how to make home-made wicks for candle use?
Oct 03, 2008 | making candles at homei love to make candles but I am also just beginning. I don't know much about this craft but would like to learn more. Any good wick recipes?
Yes, in fact I made home made candles years ago. A wick is simply buying some thick string and dipping the string into melted wax. You can do this when your pouring the wax in a candle mold. To keep the wick stabilized you use a small candle mounting device, (usually shown on the bottom of a candle). The device will have the string tied to it.
You support the string with a dowel or a pencil, thus keeping the string tight while you pour the wax in the mold. Depending on what type of a mold your using does depend on how you anchor the wick, while the wax hardens.

You can dip cord type string in wax and let dry. Sometimes it works if candle is not real big in length or diameter.
I gave up and purchase the wicking with wire in the middle.

Its a cord type string you can buy, and dip it in the candle wax, and that creates the wick…
Best thing to do, if your just starting out, would be to buy, a candle making kit, that has you start from the very beginning, even making the wick.
If not, ebay, has a lot of info on candle making sets..
And they sell alot of stuff like that on there….
Good Luck!
