Get a cheap candle kit from a craft store. That will have the wick and so forth. Melt your choices of waxes with scents if interested. Use a pan or pot that you will not cook in again. You can use glasses or cheap candle holders you can purchase just about anywhere.

This is by far the EASIEST candle you can make:
* Buy granulated wax
* Fill a small container (e.g. votive holder) with it (no need to fill it to the top)
* Insert a pre-waxed wick in the center of the container and trim it about 3/8 inch (12mm) above the wax surface.
Your candle is done and ready!!!
No melting, pouring or other messy stuff.
Now, if you are interested in candles that require melting wax, or gel candles etc. I would strongly recommend this site:

They explain everything! From the basics to more advanced projects. And have a very good forum with people that are eager to help!
Making candles is basically easy: it is just melting wax and pouring it into molds or containers with pre-placed wicks. However, there are so many beautiful and unique candles you can make!
Have a look at this one:

If are only starting, I would definitely recommend a candle making starting kit. It should be the easiest thing.
